@bim2x4 You are correct. Some is expected, but the goal of any weight loss journey should be make it as “good” as possible. The ultra-low calorie diets (low in fats and protein) should exacerbate the problem, which is why I think mine was minimized.
I have lost 70 pounds on the atkins and I luckly I dont have loose skin, probably due to me being 25, but I would think that after losing over 200 pounds loose skin should be a badge of honor, proof of your will power and hard work.
@sniff28 (cont.) However, it does not switch back and forth between burning carbs and burning fat readily. Once you start down the burning carbs route, it will go to stored glycogen readily not stored adipose tissue. Otherwise, the whole “hitting the wall” thing for high carbers wouldn’t be an issue.
@sniff28 Well if it hangs down like a balloon like a deflated balloon, I would say it is loose skin. As for bounce back, does a previously filled water balloon bounce back to the original shape?
What are we wrong about — that one can eat unlimited protein if we lift weights? Even professional body builders say there is limit on the amount of protein the body can use in one day, and the rest will be converted to glucose.
The thing is your body still has lots of bodyfat left on it. If it was loose skin you should be able to pull it an it should bounce back but that is a few inches thick. And alot of you are wrong, yeah too much protein turns to fat but if you lift weights if wouldn’t. The thing you have to watch out for is Carbs and sugar. When you excercise you burn carbs, if you eaten less carbs when you excercise you will burn the carbs an fat. It’s best to excercise before breakfast, you will burn fat of …
@MrSillybilly20 How long were you on Atkins? What phase did you reach? What does “learned the hard way” mean?
If you want to hear or read more of the research of the high protein and Atkins Diet, I’d encourage you watch my “Atkins Diet: High Fat or High Protein” video.
@MrSillybilly20 Wrong, excess protein is converted to glucose which is then causes an insulin reaction, which then enables the pathways to be stored as fat.
As for the stress on the kidneys and gall bladders, then it is a good thing Atkins is not a high protein diet. In fact, many people with gall bladder attacks see relief on Atkins.
As for Atkins and healthy lifestyle, 7 years later on Atkins, my lifestyle, athletic performance, lipid panels, and annual physicals could not be better.
Hie, did u heard Thermacool before? it is a treatment to tone your body, i am wonder whether want to try it or not as it is not cheap though is cheaper then surgery and is without the need to cut of the skin. Btw i am on your distance as well, i had loss 110pounds in last 2 years and having a seriously loose skin problem = (
@bowulf yah true no one can force me but all there is to eat there is chips, cheez its, top ramen, and cereal. Then for dinner the only time i can have an atkins type meal is when he bbqs and thats only once a week if not less but most of the time its stuff like pasta and pizza. We don’t eat healthy at all. yah i can handle the school thing ill probably just take an atkins bar and a water so i can eat that instead of the lunch. Then to make up for that ill have a big breakfast and dinner?
@XtraZMezmerize Well no one can force you to eat the sugars or bread found in some foods. Sometimes when you are in a place out of your control, it is about making the best choices possible not the perfect ones. For example, someone takes you to fast food, don’t get the fries. At school, simply limit the amount of refined flours, sugars, and staches you are eating, and if needed, supplement them with something easily portable like nuts, string cheese, beef snacks or pepperoni.
@bowulf Alright thanx, and when i go back to school what could i do to avoid gaining it back because right now im living with my uncle and he has done the atkin diet and is doing it with me right now to encourage me,but when i go back to school i will be living with my dad and he never really cares about my health. What can i do to stay at that weight? my uncle says to follow the diet on weekdays and on weekends eat whatever to maintain the weight. Also school food is another issue. im 5 11 also
@XtraZMezmerize I think you are on a good plan right now. You could eventually up the intensity of the cardio, but overall start with what you can do. You can always start to add things like biking, elliptical, or running in a few months or as walking becomes too easy or not a challenge.
One final tip - don’t focus on 190 as a finish line but rather like relay race. You may lose at 1-2 pounds a week or 4 pounds a week or more. Eat right, and learn the lessons to keep it off while losing.
@bowulf dude you are awesome im 16 and just started the atkins plan and this really inspires me. I can’t wait to be able to fit into skinny jeans without worries. I walk everyday for an hour at a good pace and i do push ups and sit ups everyday. What else could i do to lose the weight more effectively. I weigh 248 and my goal is to weigh 190 by August 17. Please reply it would mean alot thanx
The first time I lost a bunch of weight I had the same loose skin. What you say is so true though! The loose skin is really nothing compared to being a prisoner in a fat body.
@oopxe789 Yes, I worked out after the first month or so once the body got acclimated to burning fat. I worked out 3-5 times a week by walking, elliptical, biking and lifting weight. Since losing the weight, I developed a fondness for running and have since ran many half and full marathons while still doing Atkins.

Loose skin does NOT “bounce back” nor disappear by itself over time. This is a medical FACT.
Unless one is very young — as in teenager young and still growing naturally — a drastic decrease in weight will certainly leave loose skin.
@zone1282 Exactly right… There are more important things than worrying about a few stretch marks.
hey atleast your thin and not worry about dyin of an heart attack or stroke.
Much credit/props for having the guts to show your stomach. I respect you more now than ever.
